5 DAY SUMMER SCHOOL WITH GRAHAM FITCH AND PENELOPE ROSKELL
Graham and Penelope have constructed a series of technical sessions that will focus on memorisation, playing with confidence and practice techniques. In addition, they will provide details of recommended warm-up exercises and a discussion on injury prevention and healthy technique.
In between the workshop sessions, Graham and Penelope will be running masterclasses which will help develop performance skills and confidence. These sessions are run in small groups and provide expert guidance on interpretation, articulation, fingering and voicing as well as the opportunity to review the most challenging parts of your chosen repertoire in detail.
We’re also particularly excited to be able to confirm that we have arranged a trip to the privately held collection of period keyboard instruments that used to be housed at Finchcocks (whilst it operated as the world famous piano museum). The core collection of 15 keyboard instruments includes spinets, clavichords, harpischords, fortepianos and square pianos dating from 1700 to 1866. We’re encouraging our guests to bring repertoire from that period to play on these instruments during our visit – perhaps some Clementi to play on the 1822 Clementi grand piano, or some Beethoven to play on the 1801 Broadwood that was identical to Beethoven’s own piano.
In the middle of the week, we’ll also make time for a walk through the beautiful countryside to an award winning local farm and kitchen, the Small Holding, that specialises in delicious local produce. We’ll follow that with the chance to play some duets and, as the sun sets, we’ll head out to the lawn to try some locally grown English sparkling wines.
This course is expected to sell out, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested in attending.
