2020 – A year like no other

2020 – A year like no other

This year has certainly been one to remember, and not how any of us planned…

But, here at Finchcocks, we have adapted and grown to continue supporting your musical needs.
We take a look back over some of our highlights this year:

Online resources

During Lockdown, we expanded our online resources to support your practice. This included Dave’s interactive video series – covering essentials for our beginners and intermediates. Also, check out our tips for supporting your child in their practice and our blog page, for regular updates and resources.

Two grand pianos in the recital room!

To support our masterclasses and 1 to 1 lessons, we now have a second grand piano for our recital room alongside our Steinway, aiding distancing and improving the learning experience for our pianists. Social distancing is ensured by demonstration by tutor on one piano, student on the other and the option for safe duet performance.

Alfresco performances

Over the Spring and Summer months we set up an outdoor stage, and held live events as well as streamed concerts outside. This included: singer Helen Lacey’s evening concert of summer cabaret song in support of her Masters in Performance. Alexander Metcalfe (alongside Amusia Productions) also gave an unforgettable performance of Satie’s production Mémoires d’un Amnésique.

Breakfast in bed

A personal favourite from our course participants! Breakfast is now bought to your room with a varied menu and at a time of your choice.

Supporting musicians

We’ve expanded our support to local musicians, as well as musical charities including Help Musicians. And we’re particularly proud that our summer concerts raised more than £2,000 for local musicians and our various musical charities.

Warren livestreaming

Warren’s Sunday series

These were launched initially as a 5-week series, but were such a huge success they have continued since. Since the summer, Warren has filled our recital room with beautiful music, broadcasting his concerts to tens of thousands of people online on no fewer than 20 occasions. Tickets are available from Warren’s own website which you can find here.

Courses during (and after) Covid

We’re proud that we’ve managed to continue running our live courses. Our courses are safer and better than ever! Including, extra tables at dinner, breakfast in bed and enhanced cleaning. See more details here. We’ve got a really exciting line up of courses throughout 2021 including a “Music and Mindfulness” course as well as dedicated courses on Bach, Beethoven and the French Impressionists. So please do drop Jenny a line if there is a particular course that sounds of interest, or if you need help choosing a course that suits you best.

We can’t wait to show you what’s in store for 2021!

Have a wonderful and restful Christmas.
