Courses for piano teachers
Piano courses
for piano teachers
Finchcocks offers residential courses for professional piano teachers throughout the year.
Courses take the three forms: day seminars, residential weekend courses and week long summer school courses.
Helping students with motivation, practice and rhythm are key topics on our courses. Different pupils require different techniques, but staying motivated is the key to success and our tutors will provide you with a range of ideas and methods that help maintain and increase levels of enthusiasm throughout the course of your tuition. Encouraging students to practise can be tricky, but making the most of their practice time is just as important. We run dedicated sessions on how piano teachers can instil effective practice techniques in their students.
When it comes to helping their students prepare for exams, teaching sight reading and aural skills are often areas where teachers are most interested in developing their skills.
Helping students achieve their potential in exams is particularly important for teachers, so we run regular repertoire sessions on the ABRSM exam repertoire. According to a recent survey we carried out, the ABRSM still dominates as an exam board, with 67% of teachers entering their students for these exams. Trinity College London came second with just over 10% of candidates with the London College of Music attracting just 5% of participants. So we run regular sessions in which former ABRSM examiners, explain the assessment criteria for exams, and then provide teachers with an opportunity to make their own assessment of a real candidate in a mock ABRSM exam, which is then calibrated against the marks awarded by our friendly examiner.
