UPPER INTERMEDIATE COURSE WITH ANDREW DUNLOP
Our Upper Intermediate course caters for people who are between grades 4 and grade 7, and playing regularly.
Our tutor for the weekend, Andrew Dunlop, is an examiner, adjudicator and the Company pianist for the Northern Ballet, having received his Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music in New York.
Morning workshops will focus on warm-up techniques and an exploration of studies/etudes to help motivate and activate even the most reticent of fingers. Other topics to be explored during the weekend include strategies for efficient and effective sight-reading, advanced pedalling techniques and a session on improvisation for the classically trained pianist.
Daily masterclasses run in between the workshop sessions, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore the full range of repertoire brought by other attendees. Performance skills and interpretation will be the main focus of these sessions. Everyone will be asked in advance to provide a list of their chosen repertoire to encourage collaboration between course participants.
In addition to masterclasses, Andrew will provide 30 minutes of individual coaching to each attendee. During these sessions, participants may wish to tackle areas of technical weakness, explore further repertoire they are working on or focus on material covered in the workshops.
Each attendee will have the use of their own grand piano for the weekend, with food cooked by our in-house chef and with spacious accommodation in our grade 2 listed Coach house with panoramic views of the Finchcocks estate.
